Now that you’ve completed (or are well on your way through) your Invisalign® treatment—congratulations! Straightening your teeth is a big investment in your smile, and we’re so glad to be part of your journey.
But even though you’re finished switching out aligners, keeping your new smile in great shape requires a little ongoing care. The good news? It’s simple, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
Here are a few tips to help you maintain your results and keep your smile healthy for years to come.
1. WEAR YOUR RETAINERS AS DIRECTED
Once treatment is complete, we’ll provide you with custom retainers to keep your teeth in their new positions. These are crucial—your teeth have a natural tendency to shift, especially in the first several months after treatment.
Most patients will wear their retainers full-time at first, then transition to nighttime wear. If you ever lose or damage your retainers, contact us right away so we can replace them and avoid unnecessary shifting.
2. KEEP YOUR RETAINERS CLEAN
Just like your aligners, retainers need regular cleaning. Rinse them with lukewarm water after taking them out, and brush them gently with a soft toothbrush (but avoid toothpaste—it can be abrasive). We can also recommend special retainer cleaners if you’d like something extra.
Avoid leaving them in hot cars or washing them with hot water, as heat can warp the material.
3. STAY CONSISTENT WITH ORAL HYGIENE
Now that you’ve invested time in straightening your teeth, you want to keep them healthy too! Continue brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. Clean teeth help your retainers fit better, feel more comfortable, and keep your smile looking its best.
4. VISIT US FOR REGULAR CLEANINGS AND CHECKUPS
Routine dental visits are still important after Invisalign®. Not only do we want to keep an eye on your oral health, but we’ll also check your retainer fit at each appointment. If anything feels off or you notice changes in your bite, don’t wait—just give us a call.
5. STORE YOUR RETAINERS SAFELY
Always keep your retainer case with you, especially when you’re traveling or eating out. Most retainers that go missing end up in napkins or tossed out by accident (it happens more than you’d think!). A case helps protect your retainers and keeps them clean and secure.
KEEP YOUR SMILE ON TRACK
Your smile transformation doesn’t stop when the aligners come off. Wearing your retainers and keeping up with your oral hygiene will go a long way toward making your results last.
If you ever have questions about your retainers, feel discomfort, or notice any shifting, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We’re here to help you maintain the results you worked so hard to achieve.
