The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on Feb. 11, 2014 launched the youth prevention campaign “The Real Cost.”

The campaign targets at-risk youth 12-17 years of age who are open to smoking or who already are experimenting with cigarettes. According to the FDA that is about 10 MILLION youth in the U.S.

Every day in the United States, more than 3,200 youths under 18 smoke their first cigarette and more than 700 become daily smokers. WOW!

The dental part of the campaign will focus on the following messages in varying forms:

– See what your smile could look like if you smoke

– Smoking cigarettes cause yellow teeth, bad breath, and gum disease
