Brush your teeth thoroughly and regularly – One of the most effective treatments and preventive steps for gingivitis is to brush your teeth thoroughly and regularly, at least twice a day, preferably after each meal. The reason for this is that the toothpastes are enriched with nutrients and ingredients that not only help to keep your teeth looking healthy, but also help to kill bacteria as well. Another benefit of brushing your teeth thoroughly and regularly is that brushing them will help to remove trapped food particles in your mouth and between your teeth which could then lead to an increase in bacteria within the mouth.

Use salt – Salt has been found to be an extremely potent and beneficial ingredient when it comes to the treatment of gingivitis. The reason for this is that salt possesses numerous anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties that have been found to help treat inflamed and swollen gums. As well as this, salt has been found to draw infections from within abscesses in the mouth and to inhibit the growth and multiplication of bacteria within the mouth. Simply mix half a teaspoon of salt into warm water and rinse around your mouth before spitting it out after 30 seconds or so.

Floss your teeth daily – You may think that flossing your teeth is tedious and time consuming but once you get the hang of it you can do it in no time at all. Flossing helps to remove food debris that brushing alone just wouldn’t be able to remove. Flossing allows you to get down all the way to the gum line between your teeth and can help to prevent food and therefore bacteria build ups, cavities, gum diseases, and numerous other dental problems as well.

Visit your dentist regularly – Above all else, one of the most effective methods of treating, and preventing gingivitis is to ensure you visit your dentist regularly, at least every six months. Dentists will be able to diagnose exactly what the problem is and just how serious the condition is, they will also be able to provide you with useful information and recommendations on which products you should and should not be using. They will also be able to provide treatments themselves and provide thorough cleaning routines that you simply wouldn’t be able to do at home on your own. Visiting your dentist regularly is by far the most effective treatment and preventive step for gingivitis, and all other dental health and hygiene related matters for that matter too.
