The holidays are well known for their sweet offerings, treats, and baked goods. This holiday season, instead of the standard, sugary, starchy, desserts that can lead to harmful cavities, try these healthier and less sweet alternatives.

  1. Dips – There are hundreds of recipes and combinations you can make for fun and festive dips. Serve along with pretzels, pita chips, or vegetable sticks.
  2. Fruit Skewers – Arrange some brightly colored and in season fruits on sticks for easy to grab treats. Offer a yogurt dip along with them for a slightly sweeter treat.
  3. Tortillas and Salsa – grab a few salsas of varying spice levels, including some fruit flavors salsas, and offer a hearty bowl of chips to dip them in after dinner.
  4. Almond Bark – If you just can’t resist a sweet treat, make your own Almond bark with dark chocolate. Dark chocolate offers healthy antioxidants, and has less sugar than milk, semi-sweet, or white chocolate. Almonds help keep your blood cholesterol down and contain phosphorus, which helps make teeth and bones stronger.

No matter what you choose to indulge in, maintain a high standard and level of oral health, brush your teeth at least twice daily, and floss to remove food particles.
